Projections in Public Series

This project was created by Karen Atkinson and Carol Hobson (Projected Light Collective) and was a collaborative project in Los Angeles and San Diego. Karen then went on to produce the project in a number of different cities. Projections in Public is a site specific project and content was created for each event, in which slides created by artists as the artwork itself were projected in store front windows from dusk to midnight.. National artists were include as well as artist who resided in the local city in which the project took place. Information about the neighborhood was carefully considered by each artist. All projects took place in a non art context window, so no art spaces except for Cleveland in which the project was shown before a new art space was created in an old building.

Projections ran from dusk to midnight in each city. In Los Angeles, there were weekend film screenings by artists on weekend evenings. Viewers brought their own popcorn and beach chairs to the events in Los Angeles.
