Nowhere is construction more the pure invention of reality than in digital media where creators act simultaneously as architects, historians, and artists, redefining boundaries, rewriting history, and recreating reality. The projects in "Ground of Contention" are all virtual representations of geographic destinations, each varying in its relationship to the physical. The lines here are blurred between reality and imagination, and locations are defined by cartographers so that the real is only as real as the terminals which redefine it. Each work deals with the manipulation and representation of environments, presenting individual interpretations and documentations of space. Together they begin to form a landscape of discourse among creators and participants, one which will expand with time, but remain firmly rooted in ideas and research.
